- The coming together of the experts and volunteers, coupled with good wishes from our samaritans, has strengthened our hope and today we are marching hand in hand to bring our audacious vision to light – Creating and constructing India’s first GYAN GRAM in Athigudi Village, Trichy, Tamil Nadu. One of its kind, this knowledge hub in the serene village will also house artistes and educators. Holistic living for all is the vision of VARAM FOUNDATION .
- Varam Foundation wants to bring to fruition, the vision of our great leaders, the need for GRAM SWARAJ. Villages needs to be self –sufficient and self-reliant. Gyan Gram Athigudi is a pilot project and wants to bring about sustainable living in Athigudi village. GYAN GRAM ATHIGUDI will be a model and a one of its kind village in Tamil nadu and a knowledge hub in the near future.
- GYAN GRAM ATHIGUDI is an inter-generational centre for the retired and the children. Struggling Senior citizens, especially educators and artistes will be housed at Athigudi. With their wide experience and knowledge , they will be mentors to the children , who will be benefitted by the wisdom of these elders. Music and Arts and Sports and Education will be the breath of Gyan Gram Athigudi.

Dignity in life and death is a philosophy she believes in, and hence we started developing an old village house located at Athikudi Village, Lalgudi Taluk, Tiruchirapalli Dist. into a modest Shelter for Senior Citizens (Phase 1) and a home for the less privileged children (Phase 2) who have no place to call their home.
It is surrounded by temples and green paddy fields, set in a quiet village. Next to a Veda Patashaala by Muralidara Swamigal and a Meditation Hall, Athigudi village is fast becoming a wellness retreat village.
On completion of Phase 1 – Renovation of Ground Floor, the facility can house 12 senior citizens on a room sharing basis. We aim at providing love, care and comfort to alleviate loneliness, and ensure that the elderly receive the basic physical, psychological and emotional needs.
Following are the facilities provided at the shelter for senior citizens;
- Rooms that are thoughtfully constructed with wheelchair enabled bathrooms.
- Healthy, Vegetarian food.
- Yoga and meditation hall.
- Housekeeping / Maintenance Services.
- CCTV camera.
- Medical Assistance / Doctor on call / Physiotherapy / Tie up with hospitals at Lalgudi Taluk and Tiruchirapalli Dist.
- 24/7 security.
- Power back up facility.
- Reading Room / Indoor games.
- Monthly trips to nearby places.

These three ingredients are a must for every individual and for a better society. Varam foundation was founded with a focus to empower less privileged children and young adults holistically, through Life Skills, Arts and Education. And help people lead a life with dignity.
Phase 2 – Proposed construction of First Floor, the facility will function as free learning center for the less privileged children . It can also house up to 20 less privileged children who fall between 7 – 14 years of age in a dorm type living space.
